Using the site

The content of Trail & Ride is provided for general information. You may read it and share links to it, but please do not republish our text, photographs or maps without permission. The site currently has no advertising or affiliate links. If that changes, we will update these terms and our other policies first.

Safety in the mountains and outdoors

Hiking, mountaineering, cycling and travelling carry real risks, including sudden weather changes, rockfall, exposure, getting lost, wildlife, heat, cold, fatigue, river crossings, closed paths and lack of mobile coverage.

Our descriptions are not a substitute for your own judgement, training, equipment, a current map and local advice. You are responsible for your own decisions and for your group. Before you leave, check the weather forecast, mountain warnings, path closures and opening times from official sources, tell someone your plan, and turn back when in doubt.

In Europe call 112 in an emergency; in the Alps, mountain rescue is reached through it.

Information may change

Routes, timetables, prices, opening times, closures and conditions change over time. Every article shows the date its facts were last checked and lists its sources. Always verify the current details with the official source before you rely on them.

No liability beyond the law

We provide the content as is, without warranty of completeness or accuracy. We are not liable for any loss or damage arising from using the information, except for intent, gross negligence, injury to life, body or health, or where the law does not allow liability to be limited.
