Editorial policy

This page explains how we research, write, verify and update the content on Trail & Ride, and how we stay independent.

How we research

We write from first-hand knowledge wherever we have walked a route ourselves. We combine this with official and open sources, including national park and tourism authorities, public transport operators, mapping authorities, OpenStreetMap and UNESCO.

How we verify

We check numbers, dates, names and transport details against an official or open source wherever one exists, and we say so in the article when we could not confirm something. Each article shows a "Facts checked on" date and a visible list of its public sources with the date each was accessed. We only cite official or open sources.

Updates and corrections

We recheck published articles regularly and aim to recheck their facts at least every 60 days, then show the new date. We make corrections as soon as an error is verified, and readers can report errors by email at connection@trailandride.com.

Images and licences

We use our own photographs and illustrations, and openly licensed images. For every image we show the credit, author, licence and link with the image and on the Image credits page.

We do not use images from commercial photo agencies, blogs or social networks, and we do not use close-up photographs of people's faces without their permission.

Tools

We use AI-assisted tools to help draft and translate text. We check key facts against official sources where they can be reached, and we mark what we could not confirm.

Independence and money

The project is independent. We publish no sponsored content, no paid placements, no affiliate links and no shop links at this time. If that ever changes, we will label such content clearly and update this policy first. We do not accept payment for reviews or rankings.

Gear mentions are based on manufacturer specifications and are not rankings of shops. When we give a price, it comes from the manufacturer's official site in US dollars or euros, with the date it was checked.

Safety

Our articles are information, not safety advice. Please read the Terms of use and safety disclaimer for the full disclaimer before you set out.
